The root cause of fear

Insecurity is nothing but having self-doubts about what will people think of you. It is the main cause of fear.

In the previous newsletter, we talked about overcoming your fear by facing it, why, and how to face your fear, and I also shared my personal story of overcoming the fear of talking to new people by facing it.

If you haven’t read it yet, I would highly recommend you to read it first and then continue with today’s newsletter, as this is the continuation of the previous newsletter.

After writing the article on fear, I was trying to understand why we have fear in the first place, and why I had the fear of talking to new people?

The answer was my voice (I have a high pitched voice) and my pronunciation (I find it difficult to pronounce certain alphabets)

Then I considered other fear we have, such as public speaking where we have insecurity about people's judgment.

Most of the fear we have is because of our insecurities about some things, not always it’s because of things others can see like voice, pronunciation, but many times we have insecurities inside our mind like insecurity of people judging us.

“Insecurity is the main cause of fear”.

Insecurity is nothing but having self-doubts about what will people think of you.

Just like the fear you shouldn’t live with your insecurities, you should embrace them and work on them.

For example, If I am insecure about my high-pitched voice, I should work on it and try to make it a little low-pitched. If I am insecure about my pronunciation, I should work on it through daily practice.

We all have some insecurities, and many times just like fear we ignore to recognize them and work on them.

Insecurities make us feel underconfident.

Being a little imperfect is nothing to be ashamed of, it shouldn’t limit your success. We should understand, that no one is perfect we all try to hide our insecurities from others, even if someone has no insecurities, he/she may have worked hard on them.

Insecurities can be overcome just like fear. You just need to sincerely work on it. You need to embrace your insecurities.

It’s not that I am perfect, I have insecurities, I have fear, but what’s important is I am trying to be a better version of myself, I am trying to be overcome my insecurities, my fear.

Exercise

You won’t overcome your insecurities by reading this, you need to take action, follow the below checklist and I am sure you will see some progress in overcoming your insecurities.

  • Write down your insecurities

  • Decide the one which has many consequences if not overcome (if can be voice, pronunciation)

  • Get your hands dirty. (Face your insecurities and try to work on them, do daily practice)

  • After succeeding or failing (write what went right and what went wrong)

  • Repeat from the third point

  • After overcoming one insecurity, repeat the second point and overcome new insecurities.

  • Repeat
